Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, the 1971 gender change horror movie

Back in 1971 the British production company Hammer Film Production presented another Gothic horror movie: Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde. It was based on the 1886 story The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.

(The movie should not be confused with the 1995 comedy Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde).

The Hammer movies has never been considered high art by any means, but the effective use of clichés (amazing Victorian characters and sets, to name one) and clever filming and editing continue to be fun to watch. The company is still around.

Dr. Jekyll is looking for an elixir of life and realizes that giving flies female hormones make them live longer. They also turn males into females.

Planning to use himself as a human test subject Dr. Jekyll has to get hold of bodies of women to get access to said hormones, and while he starts out buying corpses provided by grave robbers it all soon escalates into murders of the Jack the Ripper kind.

Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde does have some crossdreamer qualities. The first transformation scene is clearly an erotic one, and much more explicit than the clip below may indicate. The movie also makes use of a trope from TG fiction, where the female personality - sexy, alluring and obsessive - threatens to take over completely.

All in all it is not a bad movie, as far as B movies go. Do not expect realism, though. It takes only 30 seconds from the doctor drinks a glass of female hormones until "Sister Hyde" takes over. We wish!

Forced Sexchange Story May Be Filmed

From GayNZ.

Film-maker Sir Peter Jackson is reportedly considering making a movie based on the experience of a Canadian man who a New Zealand doctor tried unsuccessfully to turn into a woman.

After a botched circumcision operation in the mid-1960s, psychologist
and sexologist John Money, with the approval of then-seven month old David Reimer's parents, tried to convert the boy into a girl through
gender realignment surgery. The parents then raised their son as a girl
who they called Brenda.

However, his re-built physiognomy was at variance with his natural gender and he never identified as a girl. At age 15 Reimer, increasingly experiencing extreme psychological trauma, transitioned to living as a male. He died suddenly in 2005 at age 38.

Jackson has told the Sunday Star Times he is inclined to make another New Zealand-themed or -linked movie soon. His last was Heavenly Creatures in 1994, a movie which carried undertones of sexuality issues. He describes Money as "the doctor who was the cause of that family's misery."

Sex Change Regret & Retransition

A most fascinating documentary regarding retransition and sexchange regret. The other parts are also on You Tube.

"I simply grew out..... of the feelings I had, that made me want to live as a female"

So what made someone grow out of these feelings? Judy/Josef Kirchner looked great as a female and was in every way a female when she is saying how she wants to be male again. Are there those who are truly duel gendered to the point  where they need to do one role full time and then another?

And what of Josef today? He has a new website 'Mangina Man'

Forced Sex Change Hollywood Style

A forced sex change Hollywood style? Well...... not with the low budget allowed for this film. Done in the style of a low budget Saw type slasher movie our 'Victim' is kidnapped and forcibly feminised by a mad surgeon and his scary henchman.

This film does not really leave room for any fantasy enthusiasts out there who dream about being forced into having a sex change. A far better example is Almodovars The Skin I Live In. Still worth a watch though.

Hard to obtain on DVD as I think it was mainly made for streaming purposes. I think it was released on DVD in Australia in multi region format. Here is the trailer:  Cheryl x
